Jerome Boateng has been fined £1.5m (1.8 million euros) after being fined guilty of assaulting his ex-girlfriend Sherin Senler three years ago.

The former Manchester City and Bayern Munich defender avoided a potential five-year jail term for biting and punching Senler but was hit with the largest financial damages that the Munich District Court could hand out.

The 33-year-old bit Senler during a holiday in the Caribbean thee years ago, spitting blood in her face and punching her in the kidney.

The Germany international denied the allegations, claiming that he was attacked by Senler, but Boateng was convicted of causing dangerous bodily harm by judge Kai Dingerdissen.

Charges were originally brought before a district court way back on 11 February 2019 but the trial was delayed for over two years.

Boateng and Senler were together for a decade and have twin girls together, Soley and Lamia.

The World Cup winning defender signed for Lyon on a free transfer this summer, leaving Bayern Munich after 10 years at the club, during which time he won nine Bundesliga titles and two Champions Leagues.

He is yet to make his debut for the French side after joining on a two-year deal on 1 September.

Boateng spent just one season with Manchester City in the Premier League in 2010/11, making 24 appearances across all competitions after signing from Hamburg for £10.4m. He left for Bayern Munich after a year in England.
