Former Celtic manager Neil Lennon singled out ‘excellent’ Aaron Ramsdale after Arsenal’s victory over Burnley.

The Gunners secured their first away win of the season on Saturday, beating Burnley 1-0 thanks to Martin Odegaard’s superb first-half free-kick.

Ramsdale was in goal for the visitors, having replaced Bernd Leno as Arsenal’s No. 1 following his summer move from Championship club Sheffield United.

Arsenal lost their first three games of the season but beat Norwich City last weekend and now climb to 12th in the Premier League after edging out Burnley.

Lennon was critical of Burnley’s performance against the Gunners but praised Arsenal goalkeeper Ramsdale for his ‘excellent’ display at Turf Moor.

He told BBC Radio 5 Live: ‘Huge three points for Arsenal. Burnley wasted 45 minutes, the second half was more like them. But they’ll have regrets about this game for sure.

‘At the time, I didn’t think it was a penalty. I thought Aaron Ramsdale was excellent. Clean sheet, another 1-0 win, it is like the Arsenal of old!’

Mikel Arteta also hailed Ramsdale after Arsenal downed Burnley, telling reporters: ‘This is his character, his leadership, how he presents himself as a person.

‘I like that he has a presence and he dominates his area.’

On Arsenal’s victory, Arteta added to BBC Sport: ‘It was a hard-fought victory at a really tough place. You have to be ready for a fight.

‘In the first half we had some really good periods when we were really dominant and should have scored more goals. In the second half we gave the ball away cheaply too many times.

‘We have players who are not at their strength playing in this type of game, but they did their best and we got the win.

‘I’m very proud of them defensively and I’m really pleased with the win. It’s two wins in a row, two clean sheets. Let’s go again. We have a lot to catch up!’
