Floyd Mayweather takes swipe at rival Manny Pacquiao after Logan Paul fight

Floyd Mayweather aimed a dig at old rival Manny Pacquiao in the aftermath of his his eight-round exhibition match with Logan Paul.

Mayweather beat Pacquiao in the highest-grossing boxing pay-per-view of all time in 2015 to end their long-running rivalry.

And after failing to knock out Paul – but earning more than $50million in the process – Mayweather aimed a sly jab at his former opponent.

“Pacquiao at his age [42], which is sad, has to fight,” he said. “I’m financially set, and I want to make everybody hear this.

“You’re going to hear a lot of people say ‘Floyd needed to do this’, no, I’m well off.

“Every property that I have is paid for, my jet is paid for, all my cars are paid for, I own billion-dollar buildings, I own so much property, I’ve steadily invested in many different things.

“I’m invested in the tech world, I’ve made a lot of smart investments.”

Pacquiao will face Errol Spence in Las Vegas on August 21,while Mayweather has repeatedly insisted he will never return to boxing in a professional capacity.

However, he has not ruled out returning in an exhibition format, similar to the one in which he fought Paul in Florida.

Winless YouTube star Paul took Mayweather the distance to claim a moral victory over the five-weight world champion.

The 0-1 professional barely landed a glove on the ring legend but used his size to his advantage to hold on whenever possible and smother Mayweather’s work.

A frustrated Mayweather began slowly but upped the pace in the middle rounds but was unable to land cleanly enough to secure a stoppage.

“I had fun. You’ve got to realise I’m not 21 anymore,” he said after the final bell. “He’s better than I thought he was.

“He’s a tough, rough competitor and I was surprised by him. He knew how to use his weight and tie me up.”

Paul hadn’t fought since his 2019 pro debut against fellow YouTuber JJ Olatunji, also known as KSI, where he lost by split decision at the Staples Center in LA.

Meanwhile, Mayweather’s last outing in any capacity was a one-round exhibition bout with Tenshin Nasukawa in Japan on New Years Eve 2018, when he embarrassed the young kickboxer knocking him down multiple times.

His last professional bout saw him stop former two-weight UFC world champion Conor McGregor in 2017 to take his perfect record to 50-0.

Speaking after the exhibition, Paul said: “I don’t want anyone to tell me anything is impossible ever again, everyone has it in them.

“Floyd Mayweather, it was an honour. You never know with this guy, I’m going to go home thinking, ‘Did Floyd let me survive?.’

“This is the coolest thing ever.”
