Real Madrid are yet to receive an official offer for defender Raphael Varane, according to the La Liga club’s president Florentino Perez.

With Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in the market for a centre-back partner for Harry Maguire, Manchester United have been strongly linked with a move for Varane in the summer.

The 28-year-old has just a year left on his contract at the Bernabeu, with no extension agreed, and reports suggest Madrid are willing to let him go for a fee of around £40million.

Varane is attempting to help fire world champions France to Euro 2020 glory at this summer’s rescheduled tournament, with Didier Deschamps’ side facing Switzerland in the last 16 on Monday.

Perez is insistent that the French World Cup winner’s future is in his own hands, but revealed that no bids for him have been tabled.

‘I read news in the newspapers [about Varane leaving] and I don’t know anything,’ Perez told El Transistor.

‘We have not spoken with him yet, he is at the European Championship. He still has one year left on his contract. And we have not received any offers for Varane.

‘He is a gentleman, if he wants to stay, he will stay and, if not, he will leave.’

Meanwhile, United appear to be finally closing in on signing Borussia Dortmund winger Jadon Sancho.

The Red Devils’ latest offer of £72.5m is reportedly close to Dortmund’s asking price for a player they have targeted for several years.
