Fernandes sends message to Man Utd fans after frustrated reaction to subbing

Bruno Fernandes has sent a message to Man Utd fans suggesting the hard-fought point at Liverpool is more valuable than it seems.

The midfielder had a rare off-day against the reigning champions on Sunday, eventually being replaced late on by Mason Greenwood.

Fernandes was far from happy at being substituted, showing his frustration by gesticulating as he trudged off the field and into the stands.

But despite his stroppy outburst, Fernandes appears to have taken the positives from the result.

“One day when you look back, you will see that the most beautiful days were the ones you fought,” he wrote on Instagram.

The draw keeps United top of the table and ahead of Liverpool, though they are now just marginally in front of Man City, who could overtake them should they win their game in hand.

In contrast to Fernandes’ view, general consensus from the United camp after the match was that the point was less than they desired.

United skipper Harry Maguire said: “We wanted to win, you could see our intent in the second half to get the three points. We will feel disappointed but it is a point.

“It shows how far we have come but we’re not getting carried away, there is still improvement to be made.”

Luke Shaw added: “It is flat in the dressing room, we all feel we could have won the game with the two, big, clear-cut chances.”

Liverpool had largely dominated possession for much of the match, though United had the best opportunity to win the game when Paul Pogba found space inside the box before firing his shot straight at Alisson.

United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer was fairly diplomatic after the match, though, conceding his side had not been good enough to put a dent in Liverpool’s Anfield fortress.

“We’re a bit disappointed with the performance as well, not just the result, because you have to really turn up,” said Solskjaer.

“They’re a very good side, today they had some injury problems and we didn’t pounce on that opportunity that their injuries gave us.

“But we felt we grew into the game and we got stronger and stronger and were closest to winning it towards the end.”
