Feeling a BRIT nostalgic? 2021 awards spur 90s girl group stars to reflect on their successes

When Jade Thirlwall dedicated Little Mix‘s historic British Group BRITs win to the iconic girl bands of the 90s on Tuesday night, stars from the likes of the Spice Girls and the Sugababes were quick to congratulate them.

And some felt compelled to enjoy a trip down memory lane while they were at it, looking back on their own fond moments from the music awards.

Leading the charge was Geri Horner, who not only congratulated Little Mix and sent Perrie Edwards a bouquet of flowers – but recalled her famous union jack dress from 24 years ago.

Posting a throwback of her in the iconic look, Geri reminded her fans to ‘trust yourself’ and ‘follow your dreams’.

‘Trust yourself… this dress is a reminder to follow your instincts and be yourself,’ she posted. ’24 years ago I had an idea – to wear a Union Jack to celebrate The Brit Awards.

‘Despite the doubts, I trusted my instincts and wore it anyway. All these years later to see it worn by a fellow sister is so special #girlpower!’

Geri was referencing Dua Lipa’s ensemble from the ceremony on Tuesday, which saw her don her own union jack outfit.

Geri was sure to remind fans that she made the dress herself, posting: ‘P.S. it was £5 tea towel on a Gucci dress! #followyourdreams’

She had also posted seperately about Dua – who scooped gongs for Album and Female Solo Artist – sharing a snap of her and captioning it: ‘Wow @dualipa you wore it well!’

She thanked Little Mix for the shout-out too, adding: ‘Girl Power at the @brits last night. Thanks and congratulations @littlemix!’

This prompted her Spice Girls co-star Mel C to comment: ‘Amazing women!’

Jade – who accepted the award alongside pregnant co-stars Perrie and Leigh-Anne Pinnock – had said in her speech: ‘The fact that a girl band has never won this award really does speak volumes.

‘This award isn’t just for us, it’s for the Spice Girls, Sugababes, All Saints, Girls Aloud. All of the incredible, incredible female bands – this one’s for you!’

Emma Bunton also congratulated the Sweet Melody songstresses, posting on Instagram: ‘So much fun watching the @brits last night and great to see so many women winners – huge congrats to them and all the winners.

Thanks to @littlemix too – we love you! #GirlPower’
