Everyone is absolutely losing it over this genius app that makes you look old so we tried it on our cover stars

Have the avocado on toast shots and mirror selfies that usually populate your Instagram feed been replaced with snaps of people looking old beyond their years?

It’s all thanks to a new app called FaceApp – a photo-editor powered by AI that can add 30 years to anyone’s face.

People have been going absolutely wild for it across social media with celebrities and mere mortals alike giving their snaps the OAP effect. The Love Island cast trailblazed the trend by adding the years onto their fan accounts and, as always, the internet followed suit.

The app, which has over 80 million active users, is a free app that can be downloaded to your device from the AppStore or Google Play. It has 21 filters in the basic version, including one that allows you to age your face and also rewind the clock with a baby-face filter.

Whilst we’ve had a lot of fun with the app (scroll down to see what our cover stars look like with a few extra years on them), concerns have been raised about the app’s privacy.

People are convinced the Russian-owned app could be using people’s photos for just about anything. Indeed, in the app’s terms, it states: “You grant FaceApp a perpetual, irrevocable, nonexclusive, royalty-free, worldwide, fully-paid, transferable sub-licensable license to use, reproduce, modify, adapt, publish, translate, create derivative works from, distribute, publicly perform and display your User Content and any name, username or likeness provided in connection with your User Content in all media formats and channels now known or later developed, without compensation to you.”
