Erling Haaland admits rumoured fee is ‘a lot of money’

Borussia Dortmund chief Michael Zorc has admitted sensation Erling Haaland could potentially be allowed to leave the club.

Zorc has revealed that any potential buyer will have to meet “certain conditions” the Bundesliga giants currently have in place with their Norwegian talisman.

“The fact is that he has a contract. But it’s also a fact, and this is no secret, that he can leave the club under certain conditions,” Zorc explained in an interview with German outlet Sport1.

“Both Erling and the club are dealing with the issue very professionally. We’ll see how things progress.

“There is, despite the pandemic, no economic need to sell him. That is also a fact. We will sit down and see how the talks go.”

The 21-year-old’s current contract sees him tied to the Signal Iduna Park until 2024, though his deal is rumoured to boast a £75m release clause that could potentially contain add-ons that would see that figure rise to £90m.

Having seen his season scuppered with injury, Haaland made his return against Wolfsburg last week in trademark fashion with a goal in the 3-1 victory.

In nine appearances this term, Haaland has found the back of the net a stunning 12 times, the most recent of which coming in Sunday night’s 3-2 home defeat by Bayern Munich.

Haaland’s name is regularly touted with a switch to one of the Premier League’s biggest sides, most recently Manchester United’s after the appointment of Ralf Rangnick on an interim basis until the end of the season.

Rangnick has worked closely with Haaland at Austrian outfit RB Salzburg, where the striker first announced himself on the world stage with a string of impressive performances in the Champions League, including a hat-trick on his debut in the competition.

However, the 63-year-old German has distanced United from any talk linking the club with a move for Haaland, explaining: “I know what kind of player he [Haaland ] is — the whole world has realised how good the player is.

“The offensive players we have here, we have so many top players in the offensive department that we don’t need to speak about any other player.”

Given Haaland’s father Alf-Inge once plied his trade for United’s rivals and ‘noisy neighbours’ Man City, Haaland has often been tipped with a switch to the blue half of Manchester.

For now, Zorc has made it clear to all of the striker’s potential suitors they will have to play by Dortmund’s rules to secure his signature.
