Kyle Sinckler should know by now never to turn his back when Joe Marler is around.

The British Lions prop was midway though a gym session in preparation for England’s three autumn international matches with Tonga, Australia, and South Africa next month, when he was suddenly floored by his teammate.

However Marler, renowned for his practical jokes, didn’t actually lay a hand on the Bristol player, but did sneak up on him from behind before sounding off a klaxon horn.

A startled Sinckler duly fell to the ground in shock, shouting “Oh my God,” before rolling over to see his fellow front-rower standing over him laughing.

Marler, 31, wasn’t about to let the incident pass without everyone knowing, and uploaded a video clip of the incident for his 120,000 Twitter followers to enjoy.

He also tagged Sinckler, 28, along with a love emoji and the words “Big Daddy.”

Sure enough, just hours after going online the clip had received more than 46,000 views, and sympathy for the victim was in short supply.

Hundreds of replies simply consisted of laughing emoji’s, while @Richard11345601 wrote “Ahhhhh look at his little face at the end, medal for that one.”

@Mylerdoo seemed to echo the sentiments of many fans by pleading “Never change Joe,” and @JamesG84070861 added “Nothing better than childish behaviour.”

Marler, who himself toured New Zealand with the Lions back in 2017, is also back in the England fold after being recalled to the squad by head coach Eddie Jones last month.

The Harlequins prop already has 72 caps to his name, but in January 2021 withdrew from England’s squad for the Six Nations, citing family reasons.

His jovial nature has brought hilarity and controversy in equal measures, and in March 2020, he was banned for 10 weeks after grabbing the genitals of Alun Wyn-Jones in a game between England and Wales and Twickenham.

However, as a result of the coronavirus lockdown, the ban ended without Marler missing any matches since every fixture he was due to miss was postponed.

Sinckler meanwhile, was a long time teammate of Marler’s at club level, as well as international, having also spent nine years at The Stoop before leaving for Bristol Bears last season.

This summer, he was part of the Lions side that agonisingly lost its Test series in South Africa.
