England have made one change for the fourth Ashes Test match against Australia with Craig Overton coming into the side for Chris Woakes.

Woakes bowled just 10 overs in Australia’s second innings in the third Test of the series at Headingley and England captain Joe Root confirmed that Somerset paceman Overton will come into the attack alongside Jofra Archer, Stuart Broad, Ben Stokes and Jack Leach.

Overton, who made his England debut in the 2017-18 Ashes series at Adelaide, will pick up his fourth cap when he appears at Old Trafford.

The 25-year-old dismissed Australia’s talisman Steve Smith at the Adelaide Oval three years ago and England will be hoping he can repeat his feat once again in this match which begins on Wednesday.

Overton originally came into the squad to replace James Anderson who will play no further part in the series due to a calf injury.

England XI for Old Trafford

Rory Burns, Joe Denly, Joe Root (c), Jason Roy, Ben Stokes, Jonny Bairstow (wk), Jos Buttler, Craig Overton, Jofra Archer, Stuart Broad, Jack Leach.

More to follow.
