What you should know
- Recall that Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu had set up the Lagos State Judicial Panel of Inquiry to look into allegations of human rights abuses levelled against the police and also determine the cause of coordinated attacks on Lagos, noting that the panel’s final report would be fully implemented.
- The Panel submitted its final report with total compensation of about N410.2 million to 70 petitioners.
- A lot of controversies trailed the earlier leaked report of the panel which had indicted the state government, the Army, the police among others.
- Also, some days ago, the Lagos State Government released the White Paper report and accepted 11, rejected one and agreed on 6 with modifications out of the 32 recommendations made by the Judicial Panel of Inquiry on the Lekki Tollgate shootings. It also stated that 14 recommendations fall outside its powers and would be forwarded to the Federal government for consideration.
