Enable wins Yorkshire Oaks to extend winning streak to 12 races

Enable made short work of three opponents to win the Group One Yorkshire Oaks here on Thursday, staying on strongly in the final two furlongs to beat Magical by two-and-three-quarter lengths and extend a winning streak that started in May 2017 to a dozen races.

Sent off at 1-4 to win the 10th Group One race of her career, Enable was soon in front under Frankie Dettori and while Magical and Ryan Moore made ground in the straight to draw alongside just over a quarter of a mile out, Enable lengthened well to take a decisive lead shortly afterwards.

Thursday’s race had already been confirmed as Enable’s swansong in Britain and John Gosden’s mare will now head to the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe in Paris in October when she will attempt to conclude a brilliant career with an unprecedented third success in the race. Paddy Power immediately shaved her price for Europe’s showpiece event, to 4-5 from 10-11.

“She felt absolutely tremendous,” Dettori said afterwards. “We have to have sleepless nights until then [the Arc], but it was amazing. She had a very hard race in the King George [in July] and she was a bit tense today [before the race] but in the race she was fantastic

“I love her so much that I’m biased, but I haven’t lost with her yet and we’ve won everything. She’s an amazing horse, she does it every way and she’s uncomplicated with a big presence and a massive engine. I’ll never have a horse like her in my life, with that longevity and the amount of big races that she’s won.”
