A student arrived at university in unforgettable fashion when their parents crashed into their halls of residence.

After dropping their fresher off at the University of Warwick accommodation block on Saturday, they left a most unwanted mark to remember them by.

They lost control of the black BMW estate and crashed into the building, knocking down the bottom four rows of bricks and shattering a large glass window.

Warwickshire Police made light of the crash, calling it ‘one of the more embarrassing ways to drop your child off’.

Fortunately, no one was hurt.

The Warwickshire operational patrol unit posted: ‘Probably one of the more embarrassing ways to drop your child off for their first day of university by literally driving in to their halls of residence.

‘There were no injuries as a result of the collision.’

Social media users, including fellow students flocked to comment on the ‘mortifying’ ordeal.

One person wrote: ‘That would just be the most mortifying start to student life. That’s one way to announce your arrival at your new home.’

Another said: ‘Can you just imagine. That would be the most embarrassing thing ever, I would not have forgiven my rents if they had done that to me.’

Some went further and cracked jokes at the parents’ expense. One said: ‘That’s how eager they were to get rid of their children.’

Another added: ‘Talk about starting your first day with a bang.’

In reference to the ongoing fuel shortage, one user said: ‘Obviously run out of petrol if they couldn’t deliver them to the door.’
