Lampard has often talked of the huge influence Mourinho had on on his playing career after the Portuguese became the Chelsea manager in 2004. The pair won back-to-back league titles in 2004-05 and 2005-06, and Lampard was instrumental in that success winning the 2005 PFA Player of the Year.

Derby have made a positive start to the season, winning three of their opening five league games and beating Hull City 4-0 in the previous round. They will head to Old Trafford where Mourinho has endured a torrid start, with United losing two of their opening league games.

Liverpool will host Chelsea at Anfield in Maurizio Sarri’s first taste of the EFL Cup while Tottenham will meet Watford, as the Premier League’s four sides on maximum points were each drawn against another. Spurs have applied to play the game at StadiumMK in Milton Keynes while works on their new ground continue, which will be decided on by the EFL board on 6 September.

The reigning champions Manchester City were drawn against League One Oxford United, while Everton will host Southampton and Leicester travel to Wolves in the other all-Premier League ties.
