Sally Dynevor has revealed she is ‘struggling with her confidence’ and ‘can’t sleep’ due to her nerves ahead of her Dancing On Ice debut this Sunday.

The Coronation Street actress, 58, appeared on Friday’s This Morning via video link where she said she ‘just wants to get through Sunday night’ and build up her skills.

Sally – who has played Sally Webster on Corrie since 1986 – went on to admit she’s been struggling to let go of her skate partner Matt Evers’ hand, saying ‘it’s just too terrifying’.

She said: ‘My real problem is the confidence thing. I am struggling with my confidence.

‘I’m just hoping that as this journey goes along, if I get the opportunity, I’ll find a little bit more confidence every week. I just need to get through Sunday night.’

Sally told hosts Dermot O’Leary and Josie Gibson, who was standing in for Alison Hammond, she has been going to bed dreaming of Dancing on Ice.

She said: ‘I can’t get to sleep because I’m going through all the moves and ‘am I doing it okay?’

‘I’ve just got to get through Sunday and then hopefully my confidence will build a little bit.

‘Being on a live show as well – that’s just terrifying. So, roll on Sunday night. Let’s get it over with.’

Sally is embracing the switch from ‘downbeat’ soap character to glam Dancing On Ice star – and says viewers will finally get to know the real her.

The star revealed she is loving the chance to dress up ahead of her debut but said she’s also nervous after ‘hiding behind’ her soap persona for so long.

In a new interview, Sally admitted she’s ‘never’ had the chance to be stylish playing a factory worker on the Cobbles – and she’s looking forward to the glitz and glamour of performing live on the ITV dance show each week.

She said: ‘I’ve never had the chance to dress up on Coronation Street it’s always very downbeat so it’s good fun. It is great I am really enjoying it.

‘I do really want people to get to know me because they have only known my character for so long but again it is putting yourself out there that is quite difficult for me because I have never done anything like this before. I have hidden behind the character.

‘To suddenly come out after all these years it is quite daunting, but I am hoping that I will be okay, and it will go well and then I can go back to being Sally Metcalfe in a few weeks.’

Sally, whose daughter Phoebe Dynevor, 26, shot to fame last year on Netflix period drama Bridgerton, added her eldest is ‘really happy’ she’s taking part in the skating competition.

The soap actress, who also has 24-year-old son Samuel and 18-year-old Harriet with her husband of 26 years, TV writer Tim, 59, admits she’s found juggling Corrie filming with the gruelling Dancing On Ice training ‘really hard.’

She said: ‘It has been a bit tricky it’s like trying to find time around Coronation Street but we have managed to do it.

‘I’ve got Matt and he’s very experienced so I’m very lucky having him and we have worked really hard and I have really enjoyed it. It is a little journey and I’m enjoying every moment of it.

‘For all of us the training has been really, really hard.

‘But at the same time, sometimes I am on the ice and I’m with Matt and I think I am so privileged to do this with a professional and I’m doing it for work, which is incredible. You just have to grab the experience with both hands.’

Sally, who’s partnered with US skating champion Matt, 45, will compete against the likes of Love Island star Liberty Poole, 22, Pussycat Doll Kimberly Wyatt, 39, Happy Mondays member Bez, 57, and former Strictly professional Brendan Cole, 45.

But she doesn’t believe she has any chance of winning the series, with ballroom dancer Brendan already eyeing up a spot in the final.

He added: ‘I am not here to win but I do want to be there at the end. I am not here to win the show but I am very competitive with myself.

‘I think that’s why Vanessa [Bauer] and myself have been partnered together because we love to push but we’re having a good time with it as well.’
