Nigerian celebrities have taken to their Twitter accounts to condemn the arrest of #OccupyLekkiTollGate protesters. The men of the Nigeria Police Force arrested some of the peaceful protesters including Instagram celebrity, Mr Macaroni, and singer, Idahams.
Taking to her Twitter account, popular Nigerian disc jockey, DJ Switch, condemned the action of the Police.
She wrote, “I am literally pleading with everyone today, celebrities & non-celebrities, influencers & non-influencers; the way we did #BlackOutTuesday for foreigners, let’s shout out #EndSARS #EndPoliceBrutality all thru! Flood your timelines… SOROSOKE!!! SPEAK!!!! SHOUT!!!!
“Wat did Mr. Macaroni do? Wat did our other brothers and sisters do? What? Since we can’t match ur power, we r working seriously 2 lobby those u fear! I told u, it could be me or you! Hopefully, on d 17th that process begins #EndSARS #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria #EndPoliceBrutality. A government ‘quick’ to give explanations for herdsmen! A government so ‘ineffective’ to fight Boko Haram! But ‘slow’ and ‘effective’ for the youths. It may and most likely take time, but this is the generation that will stop you!”
Her colleague, DJ Neptune, took to his social media pages to advise the youths to ensure they get their permanent voters’ card ready against the next election.
He wrote, “Shame on the Nigerian govt, BIG SHAME. How is this democrazy that you preach to us? You indirectly telling us we have no right to protest PEACEFULLY? Pls, my fellow Nigerian youth let’s all get that PVC and EndBadGovernanceInNigeria #EndPoliceBrutality #EndSarsNow.”
In his words via his social media account, popular singer, Falz, said the Nigerian government was not concerned with upholding democracy.
He wrote, “@mrmacaroni1 and a number of other innocent Nigerians have just been arrested at the Lekki Toll Gate for exercising their fundamental human right to protest. The Nigerian government has shown by this senseless act that it is not concerned with upholding our democracy or the Rule of Law.
“They are basically showing that they are not interested in serving justice as regards the 20th of October incident. This show of force is supposed to make us fear for our lives, but the life we dey live no kuku get meaning before. Absolutely nothing to lose at this point. They better be ready for the consequences of these actions.”
Also, Yemi Alade simply wrote, “It seems on this matter of ‘a better Nigeria’ the citizens are on their own. #EndSARS #EndPoliceBrutalityinNigeria #EndBadGovernanceInNigeria.”

Speaking on the arrest of Mr Macaroni, ace beat maker, K-Solo said, “The foolish police officers who recorded #mrmacaroni & other innocent citizens have just exacerbated the issue & now the real #EndSARS protest will begin. How can a police force that should protect citizens be the ones to ridicule themselves & show the world their incompetence?”
