Liverpool match winner Diogo Jota revealed the instructions manager Jurgen Klopp gave him as he came off the bench to secure a vital three points.

Jota bagged in the 85th minute to help the defending champions return to the top of the league after they fought back from 1-0 down against West Ham.

Pablo Fornals had put the Hammers in front before Salah levelled things up at half-time but it appeared as if Liverpool were heading towards a frustrating draw at Anfield.

But former Wolves man Jota had other ideas and had Klopp’s words ringing in his ears as he popped up with the winner.

Asked what Klopp had told him before sending him on, Jota told Sky Sports: ‘To be lively.

‘Of course, with the game time the other team gets tired, so we needed to do movement, movement.

‘Fortunately, in the end, I got the space, a great pass from Shaq, and scored.’

Jota became the first Liverpool player since Luis Garcia in 2004 to score in his opening three home games and he was delighted with his latest impact.

‘It means a lot, of course,’ he added.

‘Always in a match, you are thinking what can I do different to unlock the result and, fortunately, I got two goals – just one counted – and in the end we got the victory.

‘The most important thing was the win and we just want to keep winning games.’
