Didier Drogba congratulates Man Utd starlet Amad Diallo after stunning free kick for Ivory Coast

Chelsea legend Didier Drogba has hailed Amad Diallo after his stunning strike for Ivory Coast, warning there is plenty more to come from the Manchester United starlet.

The 18-year-old scored a stunning free kick in the 97th minute to seal victory for the Elephants as they fought back to a seal a 2-1 win over Burkina Faso on Saturday.

Diallo shared a message celebrating his goal on Instagram, receiving a response for Ivory Coast legend Drogba who wrote: ‘It is just the beginning, may God guide you son congratulations’.

Drogba followed that up with a post of his own, reading: ‘Remember this kid @amaddiallo19. First goal with the national team and many more to come.’

Diallo arrived in Manchester in January, making an instant impact for the Under-23 side with four goals and three assists in three appearances before joining the senior side.

The former Atalanta youngster scored a superb header against AC Milan in the Europa League quarter-finals, making eight appearances in all during the second-half of the 2020-21 season.

Discussing Diallo’s potential back in March, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer said the Ivorian had all the ability to go on and become a ‘top player’ for United.

‘He’s still a young lad, he’s 18 but of course we see top, top potential in him,’ the United head coach told reporters at the time.

‘He’s a very good lad, very likeable, he works hard. Of course he needs to adapt to a new country, a new language.

‘We believe he has the attributes mentally, technically and physically to be a top player for us.’
