Deontay Wilder expects to decide on next opponent next week, says Shelly Finkel

Shelly Finkel claims Deontay Wilder’s next fight will be decided in the next week after his knockout of Dominic Breazeale.

Wilder successfully defended his WBC title in New York thanks to another devastating right hand blow.

Anthony Joshua and Tyson Fury are vying for a clash with Wilder, and Finkel explained the British duo were competing with Luis Ortiz to be Wilder’s next opponent.

‘First of all, Deontay will fight anyone,’ Wilder’s co-manager said in the post-fight press conference.

‘And he was willing to fight Joshua for very little. When someone wants to make a fight, they make it.

‘We overpaid Fury and gave him anything he wanted. Deontay isn’t a man who makes excuses.’

He added: ‘I’m in very close negotiations with [DAZN’s] John Skipper, I’ll see him next week. I’m in close contact with Top Rank.’

‘There’s three guys out there,’ he continued. ‘One guy will be done in the next week and very shortly after that [another] will be done.’

Wilder was in action for the first time since his controversial draw with Fury last December.

Fury pulled out of the rematch earlier in the year, while Joshua has insisted Wilder’s team are refusing to speak to Team AJ about a unification fight.

Finkel has already said a showdown with three-belt champion Joshua will not happen before 2020, but Fury insisted his rematch with Wilder could be staged before the end of the year.

While fight fans are desperate to see the champions go toe-to-toe, Ortiz is the most likely opponent for Wilder.

The Cuban was in the ring after Wilder’s victory over Breazeale and has reportedly already been told he will be the WBC champion’s next fight.
