Sony has reacted to the controversy over Days Gone 2 being cancelled by releasing a video and release date for the PC port of the original.

Although they could hardly of missed it, you wouldn’t expect Sony to acknowledge the furore over the apparent cancellation of Days Gone 2, especially as they haven’t confirmed whether it’s even happened or not.

Today’s new PlayStation Blog post about the PC version of the original game is curious timing though, or perhaps not given the release date has been announced as May 18.

Given that date this could just be a coincidence, given that while the port was announced a few months ago it hasn’t been seen until now.

If you’re feeling optimistic though you could interpret this as Sony making a point that they’re not abandoning the franchise. Although of course it’d be easier if they just said that.

As it is though, all the new PlayStation Blog post talks about is the new features for the PC version, which include 21:9 ultra-wide monitor support, an unlocked frame rate, and up to 500 zombies onscreen at a time.

Sony is also promising increased levels of graphical detail, an improvement in foliage draw distances, and mouse and keyboard support.

There’s also a ‘super resolution’ photo mode, which developer Sony Bend are encouraging fans to tweet and Instagram them about.

There certainly seems to be a decent amount of effort put into the port but whether that’s any indication of Sony’s future interest in the franchise is impossible to say.

It will be interesting to see just how far they take this PC experiment though as this and Horizon Zero Dawn are currently the only PlayStation exclusives on PC, with the latter suffering from serious technical problems at launch.
