West Ham manager David Moyes has expressed his ‘disappointment’ over Jesse Lingard’s limited role at Manchester United this season.

The 28-year-old enjoyed a fine six-month loan spell at the London Stadium last season – scoring nine goals in 16 games to help the Hammers qualify for the Europa League.

But since his return to United in the summer, Lingard has played a bit-part role at Old Trafford despite multiple impressive cameos off the bench,

The midfielder has once again been linked with a move back to West Ham in January, while Newcastle are one of the other Premier League clubs rumoured to be interested in his services.

Though Moyes has previously played down speculation of a return to the Hammers for Lingard, he feels for the England international over his lack of game time.

‘I can’t really talk about him, because he’s a Manchester United player and it’s not for me to talk,’ said Moyes ahead of West Ham’s clash against Chelsea on Saturday.

‘But he was really good for us. Jesse knows what we all think of him here. My disappointment for Jesse would be, I think he’s such a talented football player and he’s not playing.

‘He played a big part in our second half of last season. You’d have to give credit to the players we’ve here, they’ve moved on without Jesse.

‘People might have thought Jesse made a difference here. But the players have moved on and stepped to another level themselves. I’ve got to say, Jesse was a big part of that.’

New Manchester United interim boss Ralf Rangnick takes charge for the first time when Crystal Palace visit Old Trafford on Sunday.

The former RB Leipzig boss has been brought in to manage the side until the end of the season, before taking on a two-year advisory role at the club.
