Dating Game serial killer on Death Row Rodney Alcala dies of natural causes

Rodney Alcala has passed away at the age of 77.

The serial killer had been given the death penalty for killing a 12-year-old girl and four other women, but officials confirmed on Saturday that he died of natural causes after he was hospitalised in a hospital near the city of Corcoran.

He had been dubbed the “Dating Game Killer” after he took part in the US TV show in which a woman questioned three single men blindly before choosing them based on their answers.

Despite getting picked, it was later reported that Alcala’s would-be date, Cheryl Bradshaw, cancelled their plans after she met him and said he was “creepy”.

He was originally sentenced to death for his offences during the 1970s, but faced several retrials before his eventual conviction stuck in 2010.

In 2012, he was also extradited to New York after being charged for two further murders from 1971 and 1977.

He pleaded guilty to these offences and was ordered to serve 25 years to life as punishment.

Alcala was originally handed the death penalty in Orange County in 1980 for the kidnap and murder of Robin Samsoe in Los Angeles the year before.

This sentence was overturned by the California Supreme Court and he was granted a new trial – but he received the some penalty after his second trial.

After another overturned penalty in 2003, investigators once again ordered a retrial after investigators discovered forensic evidence linking Alcala to the other killings in California.

At the third trial in 2010 he was convicted of the murders of Samsoe, 12, and four other women who were aged between 18 and 32. These killings were said to have happened between 1977 and 1979.
