Danny Mills has urged Arsenal to let Alexandre Lacazette leave the club on a free transfer when his contract runs out next summer.

Lacazette joined Arsenal from French giants Lyon back in 2017 and has since scored 51 goals in 136 Premier League appearances for the north London club.

However, the 30-year-old has only started four of Arsenal’s 12 top flight games so far this season, with boss Mikel Arteta often selecting Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang ahead of him in the starting XI.

The former Lyon striker’s current deal at Arsenal runs out at the end of the season, and is able to sign a pre-contract agreement with foreign clubs in January.

And former Premier League centre-back Mills believes that the Gunners should not attempt to sign Lacazette up to a new deal, while also urging them to line up a replacement striker before letting him leave.

‘They’re going to need some kind of replacement if they are to let him go,’ he told Football Insider.

‘But is he doing enough at the moment to earn a new deal on big money? I don’t see it if I’m honest. It would be big to let him go, but they should.

‘You look at the likes of Willian and Aubemayang. Is it the best move all around? If he wasn’t at Arsenal would you be thinking ‘We need to sign this player’? Probably not is the answer.’

Meanwhile, Lacazette has revealed that his agents are already exploring potential moves away, but insists that he will wait until January before making a final decision about his future.

‘Of course, my agents are starting to look to the right and to the left,’ Lacazette told Telefoot.

‘But not until January, I really want to focus myself on something.

‘And then we will see what is on offer, if the challenges are interesting, if there are beautiful projects, how they are counting on me… so there are still many questions, I prefer to wait until January to position myself.’
