DOI host Phillip Schofield opened up about how ‘dangerous’ the show could be ahead of the launch at the weekend
He’s not had his debut on Dancing On Ice yet, but Happy Mondays star Bez has suffered a nightmare accident after hitting the ice so hard his helmet flew off.
Opening up ahead of the launch on Sunday, host Phillip Schofield opened up about how “dangerous” the show could be.
He revealed that one such example was Bez falling back so hard that his “helmet flew off”.
Phil said: “You have a rink that is full of essentially blades and we know how dangerous they can be and how deeply they can cut and how sharp they are. I’ve just watched a video of Bez on his second day fall over backwards so hard that his helmet flew off.
“Dancing On Ice is really dangerous.
“They really all risk everything for it. We’ve seen in the past that people do get hurt and of course you want to avoid that at all cost. I think we will be wrapping Bez up in bubble wrap that’s for sure.”
There will be a few changes to this year’s show, but the most obvious one will be Oti Mabuse’s debut on the panel as she replaces John Barrowman as a judge.
John left the series under a cloud of shame earlier this year amid reports of misconduct on the set of productions he worked on across the years where he exposed himself to cast and crew.
Speaking of her new appointment as a judge, Oti explained that she can’t wait to get stuck in, bringing her experience as a dancer to the judges’ table.
She gushed: “As a professional dancer I have always had so much respect for the skating professionals on Dancing On Ice.
“It is an exceptional skill that is also so beautiful to watch. I’m feeling really enthusiastic about joining the panel alongside the legendary Torvill and Dean and Ashley Banjo.
“I can’t wait to see the celebrities thrive as they learn how to ice-skate and to champion the professional skaters as they create incredible choreography.
“Having been on both sides of the table, I know a little bit about how they’ll be feeling. It’s more than an honour and I already can’t wait to join the family.”
