Capital FM presenter Sonny Jay has been named as the Dancing on Ice 2021 winner.

The grand finale of the show took place tonight and as Sonny’s name was announced, the 27-year-old broke down in tears.

The radio host and his skating partner Angela Egan were up against Faye Brookes and Matt Evers after Colin Jackson and his partner Klabera Komini placed third.

In true Dancing on Ice fashion, the two finalists were challenged to skate the Bolero, a take on Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean’s well known performance, and the public went on to vote for who should take the crown.

Presenters Holly Willoughby and Phillip Schofield congratulated Sonny and Angela alongside judges Ashley Banjo, John Barrowman, Jayne Torvill and Christopher Dean.

Phillip asked: “You are the champion of 2021! How do you feel?”

Sonny couldn’t believe it

“That is mental, thank you so much,” gushed Sonny.

“I wanted to come out of this competition being able to skate with a beer in my hand –- now I can do that and I’ve won the whole thing! I feel like I’ve completed life.”

Holly said to Faye: “And of course Faye and Matt our runners up, you have been superb too! To make it to the final is incredible too, it’s been an incredible year for talent and you’ve done so well.”

“Exactly, all I wanted to do was get here, I took it as a personal challenge, and it couldn’t have gone to a better guy,” replied Faye.

Many were shocked at the result as Faye had been the bookies favourite to win, but viewers were delighted for Sonny.

“Amazing skating and so much fun to watch. Sunny has just improved week on week. Great job!”

Another gushed: “Well Done Sonny Jay.. You and Angela were absolutely amazing!!”

“Huge congratulations to Sonny Jay, I had tears in my eyes when they announced the winner of #dancingonice So happy for you, well deserved,” added a third.

The final saw all the previous stars return to the ice for one final skate with their partner – except the few who were still too injured to perform.
