Dana White has questioned Conor McGregor’s appetite after the Irishman suffered the first knockout defeat of his career to Dustin Poirier.

The Dubliner was stopped in the second round after a flurry of punches from Poirier left McGregor on the canvass to earn the American a shot at the lightweight title.

McGregor has retired three times and his return against Poirier was his first time back in the octagon in over a year since beating Donald Cerrone.

The Irishman’s defeat raises question marks over his future in the sport as hope of a rematch against Khabib Nurmagomedov ended with defeat in Abu Dhabi.

The defeat means McGregor has now last two of his last three fights and White, who compared the Notorious’ plight with that of Rocky Balboa, has questioned whether the 32-year-old has the stomach to continue.

‘Look, there is too ways this goes – hungrier or I’m done, he’s got the money,’ said White.

‘This is like Rocky III, when you get offered a 300 foot yacht, it is tough to be a savage when he is living like he is.

‘When he was a young kid he was hungry, now he has got everything he ever wanted so i don’t know, it goes this way or that way.’

McGregor certainly showed no immediate signs of stepping away again in his post-fight press conference.

With doubt over Khabib’s return, the Irishman could face Poirier again to complete the pair’s trilogy.

White admits there’s a chance that the duo will fight again, while he’s not ruling out a rematch against Nate Diaz.

Asked about McGregor’s next opponent, White replied: ‘I don’t know, we’ll see.

‘I’m sure in a few hours he’ll be blowing me up, telling me a million things he wants to do. So we’ll see what he wants to do.

‘There’s always a trilogy when you’ve got 1-1. Tuesday is match-making, we’ll start figuring stuff out.’
