Cyberpunk 2077 and Fall Guys among Steam’s best-selling 2020 games

Somehow surprising and unsurprising at the same time (pic: CD Projekt)

Valve has shared a list of its best-selling games throughout 2020, with the controversial Cyberpunk 2077 sitting at the top.

For all the criticism and controversy surrounding Cyberpunk 2077, it continues to be a major financial success for CD Projekt.

The game has reportedly sold 13 million copies (even when taking into account refunds) and Valve has confirmed that it is one of the best-selling Steam games in all of 2020.

Considering Valve takes into account not just the game sales, but also sales of DLC and microtransactions, it’s especially impressive that Cyberpunk 2077 has managed to reach the top 12 alongside the likes of Grand Theft Auto 5, which has been one of the platform’s top sellers for the last five years.

The game has only been available since December 10 and currently features no DLC or microtransactions, meaning it has achieved this on game sales alone.

This admittedly isn’t too surprising to learn as the game became the fastest-selling PC game ever upon release, with 59% of its 8 million pre-orders being for the PC version.

It’s also the only single-player game in the top 12, with every other entry featuring multiplayer modes, though CD Projekt does plan on adding multiplayer in the future.

Indie titles Fall Guys and Among Us have also impressively grabbed top spots, with the two becoming major hits earlier in the year.

It’s especially amazing for Among Us, as it actually released in 2019 but was only widely discovered this year, becoming so popular that developer InnerSloth decided to cancel the planned sequel.

The full list of 100 best-selling games can be viewed on Steam.
