Cultism: Delta CP moves all inspectors, sergeants from division

Worried by the heightened insecurity linked to suspected cultism, particularly during the Christmas and New Year celebrations, the Commissioner of Police for the Delta State Police Command, Mr Hafiz Inuwa, has ordered a massive redeployment of all police inspectors from the Sapele Police Division.

Also affected in the transfer, according to sources, are all sergeants as well as rank and file in the division.

This was reportedly contained in a wireless message, dated December 31, and signed by an Assistant Commissioner of Police, Mr Sa’ad Ibrahim.

Titled, ‘Reorganisation Inspectors/Rank and File,’ the transfer was said to be with immediate effect.

Sources said 45 officials drawn from divisions across the state had been redeployed to take over the duty posts of the affected officers and men.

The state Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Onome Onowakpoyeya, confirmed the mass transfer but refused to link the re-deployment to cult-related killings in the Sapele area.

The PPRO said, “The transfer has nothing to do with the security situation in the area but just internal police issue.”

Recall that two persons were killed in Sapele during the New Year eve barely four days after a popular hairstylist in the community was shot dead at his shop.
