Crystal Palace vs Newcastle LIVE: Team news, line-ups and more ahead of Premier League fixture tonight

Roy Hodgson’s Eagles head into the game in 11th place in the standings with 13 points, while visitors Newcastle are in 15th on 11 points. A win for either team would send them into the top half, even if just briefly ahead of the rest of the weekend’s fixtures.

Palace are in mixed form, with two victories and two defeats in their last four outings, while Steve Bruce’s side have one win, one draw and two losses over the same period. While Palace are currently better-positioned than their visitors, they have a tougher run of matches in the coming weeks, so could do with three points here. Follow all of the action below.

Bruce on Hodgson

Steve Bruce has praised the longevity of his opposite number Roy Hodgson and believes the 73-year-old Crystal Palace manager still has a lot to give. He said:

“Roy is hugely respected by us all for what he’s done and what he’s achieved, and it’s no coincidence that he’s still performing the way he is,

“Certainly, when you go to Crystal Palace now, they’re a very, very decent side – they’ve got good players, like most of the Premier League.

“I’m delighted for him – I don’t think I’ll be going when I’m 70-odd, but fair play to him! He’s still got the enthusiasm for it and certainly when you catch up with him, he’s got bundles of it still, which is typical of him.”

Roy Hodgson makes two changes to the Crystal Palace side that defeated Burnley last time out. Gary Cahill and Jeffrey Schlupp come into the team with Jairo Riedewald and Michy Batshuayi dropping out.

There are four changes to Steve Bruce’s Newcastle. Jonjo Shelvey, Jeff Hendrick, Miguel Almiron and Callum Wilson all return with Isaac Hayden, Jamaal Lascelles, Allan Saint-Maximin and Jacob Murphy the ones to make way.

Bruce on Wilson

Newcastle head coach Steve Bruce is excited about the return of Callum Wilson who is back fit after a recent injury forced him to miss Newcastle’s match against Chelsea. Bruce said:

“As we speak now, he’ll be fit. He’s trained all week,

“We didn’t think we could risk him (against Chelsea), so he will be available which obviously we’re delighted about.

“Already he’s made a difference. He’s got six goals already in eight games in the Premier League so we’re delighted with his return.

“We have got one or two other niggles. We have one or two problems with COVID, so we have to manage that as well, but we’re delighted to see Callum back.”

Head to head

Newcastle are winless in their five most recent trips to Selhurst Park, in the Premier League, with three draws and two losses.

However, Crystal Palace have lost 14 of their last 16 Premier League fixtures without Wilfried Zaha, who misses tonight’s match.

That being said, the last seven meetings between the two sides have only produced seven goals so we may not be in for a thriller.

Crystal Palace remain without Wilfried Zaha who is still isolating after testing positive for coronavirus

Luka Milivojevic is also out of contention as he serves the final game of a three-match ban.

For Newcastle, top scorer Callum Wilson returns after missing the defeat by Chelsea with a hamstring injury.

Matt Ritchie and Jonjo Shelvey may feature after recovering from recent injuries but Jamaal Lascelles is doubtful and Ryan Fraser remains out.
