Cristiano Ronaldo has paraded his FIFA Best award on the steps of his £20million private jet.

The Manchester United star made the short trip to Zurich in Switzerland to pick up the accolade.

Ronaldo was awarded the prestigious prize for breaking the international goal scoring record with Portugal.

The historic moment came as the five-time Ballon d’Or winner scored twice late on in a win over the Republic of Ireland back in November 2021.

His tally now stands at 115, surpassing the previous best set by Ali Daei of Iran.

He posed in front of his private jet and posted it on Instagram alongside the words: “best caption wins”. The aircraft, worth around £20m, has ‘CR7’ one side of the door and a graphic of the United star doing his “Siuu” celebration on the other.

Very few individuals attended the ceremony in person but Ronaldo was among the minority who did.

He said on Monday night: “It is a dream. First of all, I have to say thank you to my team-mates in the national team in the last 20 years that I used to play with.

“The record was 109, right? So six ahead. I am so proud. It is a special award from Fifa – an organisation I respect a lot. I also have to thank my family. Soon I will be a father again. I am proud. It is great to be the goalscorer of all time.”

Ronaldo continues to find the net at the age of 36 and the forward believes his incredible physique will allow him to play on for several more years.

He continued: “I still have the passion for the game and to score goals. I play football since I was five years old. When I go to the pitch, even in training, my motivation is still there. Even 37 soon, I feel good.

“I keep working hard. I love the game and have the passion. I want to continue.

“I hope to play maybe four or five years, It is all mental. If you treat your body good, when you need it it will give back.”

The United star was joined by partner Georgina Rodriguez and eldest son Cristiano Jr at the awards ceremony.

The Portuguese star broke the international record with a brace vs the Republic of Ireland

Ronaldo’s return to Manchester has not gone as planned with the club in danger of missing out on the top four.

United finished second last term but have dipped massively despite heavy investment in the summer.

The 36-year-old claimed recently that the club must be competing in the top three, insisting he did not return to Old Trafford to finish sixth or seventh.

He told Sky Sports : “What I can say is we can do better – all of us. Manchester (United) belongs to important things, so we have to change that.

“I don’t want to be here to be in sixth place, or seventh place, or fifth place. I’m here to try to win, to compete.”
