It’s a race against time to get booster jabs

It is fantastic news that research shows booster jabs offer greater protection against Covid-19 than previously thought.

A study by Southampton University found a third dose of the vaccine gives a “several-fold increase” in protective antibodies.

The Joint Committee on Vaccination and Immunisation is now meticulously examining all the data before reaching a conclusion but we are in a race against the clock.

Other countries such as Israel, the United States and Germany have already started rolling out their booster jab programmes.

The UK is in danger of lagging behind, leaving the vulnerable under-protected.

It may already be too late to offer a third dose to all over-50s by Christmas.

While we understand the members of the JCVI want to get this right, they must also bear in mind that time is of the essence.
