COVID-19 kills 19 Nigerians on Independence Day eve

COVID-19 killed 19 Nigerians on the eve of Nigeria’s 61st Independence anniversary, the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control (NCDC) announced.

The agency said the national death toll has jumped to 2,720.

Ten of the deaths were reported by Delta state, but they were for August 19th (1), September 9th (1), 10th (2), 11th (1), 17th (1), 19th (1), 23rd (2), and 24th (1).

There were 281 additional COVID-19 cases in 12 states and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), it said.

The new cases increased Nigeria’s tally of confirmed cases to 205,765.

According to the NCDC, out of the 281 new cases, the FCT has the highest with 111, followed by Lagos with 34, Edo 33.

While Kwara and Plateau recorded 20 cases each, Rivers has 17.

NCDC said that 193,617 patients were discharged after they recovered from the virus.

At the moment, Nigeria is attending to 9,427 active cases, out of the 3,043,321 samples tested.
