Corbyn’s sons praise father despite disaster election result – ‘Took on the establishment'

Ben Corbyn and his brothers, Tommy and Seb, joined forces to praise their father’s record of campaigning for the “less fortunate” in a Facebook post, adding that his defeat “hurt” them. The post by Ben, who tagged his two siblings into it, read: “Last night hurt, today hurts a bit more, tomorrow it will hurt even more. “Jeremy has dedicated each day of his political life for the less fortunate amongst us.

“Unwaveringly, he has fought and campaigned for people suffer and people in hardship.”

They continued to claim he had produced “the most wonderful manifesto this country has ever seen”, despite the party haemorrhaging seats to just 203 – the worst result since 1935.

The post added: “He took on an entire establishment. This meant the attacks from all sides intensified and became even more poisonous while he was leader.

“We’ve never known a politician to be smeared and vilified so much.

“His unbelievably broad shoulders and incredibly thick skin endured all of this so that we could all live in the hope of a world free of racism or hunger.”

They added: “The man led with a strength difficult to quantify.”

The post also appeared to hint their father would make some sort of comeback.

It read: “To assume that the ideologies he stands for are now outdated is so wrong.

Mr Khan said last night: “If we are truly honest with ourselves, we knew in our hearts that Jeremy Corbyn’s leadership was deeply unpopular with the British people and we were extremely unlikely to form a Labour Government last night.”

Mr Corbyn’s family have kept out of the spotlight since the politician became leader of the Opposition.

Sebastian, however, was thrust into the limelight last month when it emerged he had been secretly profiting from an ex-council flat he rented out for £150 a night on Airbnb.

This came as the Labour leader cracked down on landlords and the private rental sector in his disaster election manifesto.

Sebastian, who worked for Shadow Chancellor John McDonnell, bought the two-bedroom luxury apartment in East London for just £162,500 three years ago in 2016.

The sum is significantly below the market price, with other two-bedroom flats in the same building having been sold for a staggering £650,000.

He had rented the flat on at least 47 separate occasions on Airbnb for £150 a night, with some tenants staying there for weeks on end, the Mail on Sunday reported.

Sebastian boasted the apartment is a “beautiful, newly renovated contemporary flat, perfectly located in the heart of trendy East London… a stone’s throw from all the bars, restaurants and street markets Shoreditch has to offer”.

His advert stated renters could enjoy “super-fast fibre optic broadband, a 59in HDTV” and his book collection is also included, which offers biographies of Tony Blair and Mussolini.

The property has since been taken down from Airbnb.

The Labour Party refused to comment when Express.co.uk approached them for a statement.
