Cody Simpson's girlfriend Marloes Stevens speaks after his bizarre 'tyranny' rant

Cody Simpson raised eyebrows on Sunday by going on a bizarre rant about ‘tyranny’ and ‘oppression’ on Instagram.

Now his girlfriend Marloes Stevens, 28, has broken her silence, sharing a similarly cryptic Instagram Story about ‘awareness’ on Tuesday.

The model wrote: ‘Any action done with awareness is meditation. Meditation means to be fully aware of our actions, thoughts, feelings and emotions.’

‘Another name of meditation is passive awareness,’ she added.

It’s unclear whether Marloes was somehow responding to Cody’s earlier post, or if she was simply in an introspective mood.

Marloes’ post comes days after her 24-year-old beau ranted about what he deems to be ‘tyrannical and fear mongering crap’ in a lengthy post on Instagram Stories on Sunday.

The singer and Olympic swimming hopeful also urged his fans to ‘stand up to oppression and authoritarianism’.

While he didn’t specify, it appears his post was in relation to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic and the current political climate.

‘Don’t believe or buy into this tyrannical and fear mongering crap. Stand up to oppression and authoritarianism. Life is not as chaotic as the news would like you to believe. Drama sells newspapers,’ he began.

The Golden Thing singer then claimed that he considers himself to be an outsider, before criticising the structure of society.

‘I really don’t consider myself a member of this strange, backwards society but due to the decades of this gradually established order, and these societal power structures and government systems now arranged and cemented, I have no choice but to abide by certain ridiculous laws and rules in order to remain a ‘free’ citizen and not get locked in prison or unable to make a living or pursue my goals for not ‘playing the game’,’ he ranted.

He added: ‘Most of us with any heightened awareness can smell bulls**t. All we want is some truth.’

Cody finished his tirade by claiming fear was being used as a tactic to control the public.

‘As soon as things calm down, something new to be afraid of is introduced! A fearful public is a controllable public in my eyes,’ he said.

It’s not the first time the star has been critical of the handling of the coronavirus pandemic.

In August, he criticised Queensland’s lockdown, sharing a photo of himself during an early morning swim at the beach.

‘Making the most of Aussie lockdown. We can’t train at our pool all week. But more importantly most people have had to shut their businesses,’ he wrote at the time.

‘It’s a curious and complex argument but I hope the world can open again soon and we can go back to normal life.

‘If politicians and bureaucrats had to sacrifice their salaries or take pay cuts during lockdowns, I wonder how long they’d last. Food for thought.’

He added: ‘Fear is the best weapon others have in destroying wide-open awareness and freedom. Turn off the news and go outside.’
