Smart speakers are frequent contenders for Black Friday sales, but we may have just found the greatest saving of the year.

Thanks to a clever discount hack, it’s possible to get the third generation version of Amazon’s Echo Dot smart speaker for just £3.99.

Considering the full price sits just shy of £40, that’s a spectacular reduction.

It takes into account two separate Black Friday cuts that can be joined together for the full saving.

For starters, Amazon has cut the price on the speaker on its own site down to £18.99 – a 53% reduction of its own which saves you £21.

But then you can go further thanks to Topcashback.co.uk.

The cashback website has a Black Friday deal of its own that offers further cashback on Amazon devices like Fire TV sticks, Kindle eReaders or Amazon Echo smart speakers.

It confirmed to the Express that customers can get £15 back on these devices providing they spend a minimum of £15.

So, if you apply it to the Echo Dot deal above, you’ll spend £18.99 on the smart speaker and get £15 transferred back from Topcashback – bringing the total down to just £3.99.

There are a couple of obvious caveats. The first of which is that you’ll need to sign up to Topcashback before December 5. And, naturally, you’ll only be able to use it once.

The small print reads: ‘This offer is limited to new members and any members may only receive this bonus (or any other sign-up incentive) once. Transactions that are in any category, excluding the Takeaway category, will be eligible for the bonus, providing other Terms and Conditions are met.’

To sign up for the Topcashback.co.uk Black Friday discount, you’ll need to go to this website. And you can find the deal on Amazon’s Echo Dot speaker by following this link.

Metro.co.uk’s Black Friday shopping sense check

We love to bring you the best available bargains for Black Friday, but don’t want you to go into debt or suffer financial hardship as a result.

When shopping the sales, ask yourself these questions to ensure you’re buying smart:

  • Do I need this? If your cooker has broken and needs replaced, this would be an essential purpose, while a new smoothie maker or air fryer is a desire not a need.
  • Can I afford this? If you need to put something on credit – or put off essential spending to purchase it – you can’t afford it. If it’s a ‘want’ purchase, that means you should avoid. If it’s a ‘need’ purchase, look for the most affordable option.
  • Am I buying for the sake of it? Whether it’s a gift or something for yourself, consider if you’re buying just to take advantage of discounts. For the environment and your bank balance, try to buy with intention. This could mean fewer, better quality garments you actually love (instead of throwaway trend-led fashion), or only buying gifts you know will be treasured, rather than disposable trinkets.
