Christian Pulisic has sent a message of support to Frank Lampard after he was sacked as Chelsea manager on Monday.

The 42-year-old was relieved of the duties yesterday during a meeting a Stamford Bridge with Chelsea chiefs Marina Granovskaia and Bruce Buck.

Lampard leaves Chelsea with the team having lost five out of their last eight Premier League games, and after an encouraging start to the campaign, the club are now 11 points behind league leaders Manchester United.

Pulisic, meanwhile, has struggled to make an impact this season due to injury but thrived under Lampard during the second half of the last campaign.

And the United States international thanked Lampard for his support following Chelsea’s decision to change manager.

‘Can’t thank you enough for the trust you’ve put in me,’ Pulisic posted on Instagram.

‘Will never forget these last 18 months. I wish you all the best.’

Billy Gilmour also thanked Lampard having made his first-team Chelsea debut last season.

‘Thank you for giving me an opportunity and for your faith and trust in me,’ Gilmour posted on Instagram.

‘It’s been an honour to learn from you.’

In his statement following his departure, Lampard hailed Chelsea’s first-team youngsters such as Gilmour as ‘the future of the club’.

‘I am proud of the achievements that we made, and I am proud of the academy players that have made their step into the first team and performed so well,’ said Lampard.

‘They are the future of the club.

‘I am disappointed not to have had the time this season to take the club forward and bring it to the next level.’
