Cheryl has slammed claims her mum Joan was behind her split from Liam Payne.

The couple shared an emotional joint statement revealing they had decided to go their separate ways, with them both stating it had been amicable.

But less than 24 hours after the announcement, rumours started to surface that Cheryl’s mum was part of the reason behind the split, and that she’d moved into the house as Liam moved out.

Cheryl has since taken back to Twitter during the ‘difficult time’, telling her fans that the speculation about her mum is rubbish.

She wrote: ‘I hate responding to stuff esp at such difficult times but I cannot sit here and listen to such nasty, false articles regarding my mam. I don’t know why they involve her in stories about me. I can assure you she has absolutely nothing to do with any of it.

‘I am a grown woman who is capable of dealing with my own life. She is a soft and kind woman who doesn’t deserve to be dragged into something that has nothing whatsover to do with her.’

The couple called time on their relationship just a day after her 35th birthday, and in an interview with The Sun revealed that Liam moved out of their £5million home two weeks ago.

They both added that their two and a half year relationship ended on good terms, and that their focus is now on baby Bear.

Cheryl wrote: ‘We are sad to announce that we are going our separate ways. It’s been a tough decision for us to make. We still have so much love for each other as a family. Bear is our world and we ask that you respect his privacy as we navigate our way through this together.’

A friend told The Sun: ‘Cheryl and Liam worked really hard on their relationship – they had troubles earlier this year and were able to get through them.

‘But they’re in different stages of their lives and, after a lot of careful thought, came to a decision that it’s best for everyone if they do go their separate ways.

‘He still cares for her and she cares for him. They still have an ongoing relationship together. They have a baby together.’
