Chelsea transfer round-up: Blues eye Strasbourg defender, Atletico target Giroud

Chelsea boss Frank Lampard has admitted that he is not “jumping up and down” to make lots of signings in January, revealing that the club will look to ship out some fringe players and will only bring in new players if they “feel we can strengthen in the right way”.

Speaking at his pre-match press conference ahead of the Blues’ clash with Manchester City, Lampard said: “I’m not absolutely sure yet, to be honest.

“I have ideas. We have a big squad, we’ll have to see if that changes, if there are opportunities for players that aren’t playing so much. That will be a conversation between player, club and myself.

“And then we’ll see if we feel we can strengthen in the right way. But we’re not jumping up and down to do so.

“My focus this year is purely on work because we have new players, because we have young players. I’m focusing on that. But we’ll see. It’s a long month.”

Here are the latest Chelsea transfer rumours.

Olivier Giroud has been linked with a move to Atletico Madrid

Atletico Madrid are reportedly interested in signing Olivier Giroud as a replacement for Diego Costa, whose contract with the La Liga side has been terminated.

Italian broadcaster Rai Sport claims that manager Diego Simeone is weighing up a move for the veteran forward, who is in the last six months of his deal with Chelsea and has scored nine goals in 15 appearances in all competitions this season.

Jorginho is happy to stay at Chelsea, despite talk of a Serie A return

Jorginho happy at Chelsea

Chelsea midfielder Jorginho has been linked with a return to Italy but his agent Joao Santos has revealed the player is happy at Stamford Bridge at the moment.

“It was a great year for Jorge, he did very well in the national team as well. Next year there will be the European Championship, where he hopes to do very well with Italy,” Santos said.

“As for Chelsea, they are not very well placed in the table now, but being a young team, it takes time. Jorge is a Chelsea player and he is very happy there, but I wouldn’t rule out a return to Italy in future.”

Chelsea are apparently interested in making a bid for Mohamed Simakan

Blues eye Simakan

French outlet Le 10 Sport claim that Chelsea are interested in signing RC Strasbourg defender Mohamed Simakan, who has also been coveted by AC Milan.

The 20-year-old has featured in every game for the Ligue 1 side so far this season and the report claims he is expected to leave Strasbourg in January.

Milan are said to have tabled an offer worth €14m (£12.4m) for the player but Chelsea have since made an enquiry.
