Arsenal and Man Utd told to sign Chelsea hero Gary Cahill
Arsenal boss Unai Emery should sign former Chelsea captain Gary Cahill for free this summer as their centre-back search ambles on, according to Danny Mills.
“He wasn’t quite as good nor did he have quite the presence of John Terry – but he’s not too far behind that,” Mills said on talkSPORT.
“You think: ‘If we want somebody to come in, to play two thirds of the games next season…’
“Everything he brings about him… That professionalism, that experience, how players can learn from him on and off the pitch; all those types of things he can add to the football club.
“And he’ll just want to play and be part of it. It’s a no-brainer to take him.
“Why the likes of Arsenal – even Manchester United – haven’t, I don’t know!”
Frank Lampard to decide Willian future
Frank Lampard will have the final say on whether Willian gets a new contract at Chelsea.
The winger has just one year left on his Chelsea deal – and Barcelona are keen to take him to Spain in a £30million deal.
The Brazilian, now 30, is yet to join up with Lampard’s Chelsea squad, after playing in Brazil’s Copa America-winning team this summer after a late call-up.
Chelsea are currently in Japan on the second leg of their pre-season tour, but Willian is not due to rejoin them until they return home next week.
Lampard needs the skilful but moody forward this season, with another match winner in Eden Hazard having departed for Real Madrid.
Callum Hudson-Odoi to stay
Chelsea starlet Callum Hudson-Odoi is expected to commit his future to Chelsea after talks with new manager Frank Lampard, according to reports.
The youngster, who made a strong impression for Chelsea last season, was highly sought-after and was even the subject of four bids from Bayern Munich.
However, former boss Maurizio Sarri was reluctant to see the winger leave, and refused to part ways with him.
Munich even apparently made a bid of £45million for Hudson-Odoi, but were met with a strict refusal.
According to The Independent, Hudson-Odoi has met with Lampard after the ex-midfielder became Blues boss.
Hudson-Odoi was set to enter into the last year of his contract at Chelsea, and the club were keen to tie him down to stop I’m from walking away on a free next summer.
And after his meeting with Lampard, the youngster is expected to sign a long-term contract at the club.
Frank Lampard on Chelsea transfer ban
Chelsea boss Frank Lampard is not concerned about the current transfer ban at the club but insists players have to perform on the field and in training.
“Everybody knows I have a keen eye for the younger players that the academy has produced and we now have a batch of them who are fighting to get in the first team,” he said.
“But to be absolutely clear, they now have to make the difference.
“It’s a pathway that’s given to them and now they have to be the ones who play well enough to get into the team.
“I don’t care about age, I just care about performance and how people train. It’s up to those young players to show what they can do.”
