Chelsea set for major summer transfer moves following Champions League success

Thomas Tuchel will be backed in the transfer market this summer with major funds to build on their European success.

Chelsea boss Tuchel revealed he wants “two or three” new signings with a big name centre forward on top of their priority list.

And the belief is that their European success will give them extra pulling power as Chelsea are in the marker for Borussia Dortmund star Erling Haaland while Tottenham ’s Harry Kane has also been heavily linked.

Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich was in Porto to see the success, met Tuchel in person for the first time and now they will draw up a hit list with the biggest aim to challenge Manchester City in next season’s Premier League title race.

They could also revive interest in West Ham ’s Declan Rice while Tammy Abraham could be on his way out as he does not figure in Tuchel’s long term plans.

Chelsea spent in excess of £200m last summer and, while they may not reach that level again, they are prepared to spend big on the major additions they need to make them title contenders.

Tuchel said: “Two or three could be very, very good. It’s a constant thing to never deny also change. That you always bring new energy, new guys who question the old beliefs, who challenge everybody in the training and in matches, so I think it’s a good thing.

“We don’t need another seven and another complete turnover because it’s also our job to keep on improving because we have still a young squad and it’s now about stealing from them the chance to prove it again that they are capable of growing and evolving.

“But we have some ides, of course, to make the group stronger and I think this can always be a positive thing to challenge all of us.”

Chelsea’s victory over City took their Champions League earnings for the season to over £70million, while Tuchel hinted he would be rewarded with a new contract as he opened up on his conversation with Abramovich.

“I’m not quite sure if I can even speak out this, I’m not even 100 per cent sure but maybe I have already a new contract with that win, my manager said something but I do not know, so let’s check this first,” said Tuchel.

“I spoke to the owner right now on the pitch, I think it was the best moment for the first meeting, or the worst because from now on it can only get worse!

“We will speak tomorrow, we will speak later, I’m looking forward to this, I can assure him I will stay hungry, that I want the next title and I feel absolutely happy.

“I feel as a part of a really ambitious club, a strong part of a strong group that suits my belief and my passion about football in the moment perfectly.

“So my desire is to go for more victories, my desire is grow as a coach, my desire is to push the group on the first day of the next season to the limit.

“We have work to do to close the gap, this is what I’m all about.

“It will be nice to meet him a bit closer. We’re in contact but not personal but we’re in contact and he knows what’s going on from me directly, now it’s nice to meet him.”
