Chelsea have pulled out of the race to sign Achraf Hakimi as the Inter defender is now on the verge of joining Paris Saint-Germain, according to reports in Italy.

Earlier this month, Chelsea saw their initial €60 million (£51.5m) offer for the Morocco international rejected by Inter.

The Champions League holders followed up that bid by offering Marcos Alonso as part of the deal.

But PSG’s cash offer of €65m (£55.8m) has been enough to persuade Inter and Gazzetta dello Sport report that the deal will be finalised in the coming days.

The report also claims that Hakimi had remained open to the prospect of joining Chelsea but the 22-year-old has now agreed a five-year contract with PSG worth €10m (£8.6m) per season including bonuses.

The deal is worth double what Hakimi earned at Inter last season and the Serie A club are now in the market to sign a replacement with Chelsea’s Davide Zappacosta and Arsenal’s Hector Bellerin both on their shortlist.

Chelsea, meanwhile, could receive an offer from Manchester City for Reece James before the end of the window.

Reports claim that Pep Guardiola is a ‘huge admirer’ of the Chelsea defender, who impressed in games against Manchester City last season.

It’s understood that Chelsea have no intention to sell James, who still has four years remaining on his current contract.
