Chelsea are interested in Brighton centre-back Ben White as a three-way battle for his signature ensues with Liverpool and Leeds United.

The 22-year-old had a superb season on loan in the Championship with Leeds last season, playing in central defence and at the base of midfield as the Yorkshire side earned promotion to the Premier League.

He has returned to his parent club, having never played a first team game for Brighton, and now he is highly sought-after by a string of Premier League sides.

Leeds have already had two bids turned down for White, with the most substantial being worth £22m.

Liverpool have long been watching White and remain interested in him, but are not keen to pay more than that amount for the promising defender.

Enter Chelsea, as the Sun report the Blues are considering jumping to the front of the queue for White and willing to spend up to £40m on his services.

Brighton will be asking for that mammoth sum for White, despite him never playing a single Premier League game, now that Premier League giants Liverpool and Chelsea are in the running for his signature.

The Sun also report that Antonio Rudiger could be on the way out at Stamford Bridge as manager Frank Lampard looks to overhaul his options in central defence.

Fikayo Tomori has been linked with an exit, with Rennes making contact over a possible deal. while Kurt Zouma and Andreas Christensen are also at the club, but neither has ever been able to hold down a regular spot in the first team.

The Blues are thought to be bidding for Manchester City and England defender John Stones, with a £20m offer sanctioned by Lampard.
