Chelsea are in the running to sign Barcelona winger Ousmane Dembele, according to reports.

Barcelona have made it clear that they intend to offload the French winger before the end of the January transfer window after losing patience during negotiations over a new contract.

Dembele’s current deal expires at the end of the season, which would allow him to leave Camp Nou on a free transfer.

‘It is obvious that the player does not want to continue and is not committed to our future,’ Mateu Alemany, Barca’s director of football, said on Thursday.

‘In that scenario, he and his agents have been informed that he should leave immediately because we want players who are committed to our project. Therefore, we hope to transfer him before 31 January.’

According to The Sun, Chelsea are among the clubs who are now considering a move for the 24-year-old.

The report also claims that Barcelona would even be willing to let Dembele leave on loan for a £3 million fee.

Thomas Tuchel is already very familiar with Dembele having already worked with the winger at Borussia Dortmund.

Speaking during his time as PSG manager, Tuchel backed Dembele to ‘reach any level’.

‘Ousmane is an incredible player, he’s really talented. I could watch his amazing skills in every training session,’ Tuchel said in 2019.

‘He’s also a great human being. He’s a little crazy. He’s a really nice boy but a little crazy. He loves to laugh but can also have very serious conversations. It’s never boring with him.

‘If he’s focused enough, he can reach any level. When I talked to him for the very first time, he told me that he wanted to play for Barcelona. That’s where he is now.

‘It means he can reach any level, but he needs to remain focused and improve each day.’

Dembele has made just six appearances in La Liga for Barcelona this season and has been hampered by injuries throughout his career at Camp Nou.

On Thursday, Dembele delivered an angry response to Barcelona’s decision to sell him and accused the club of ‘blackmail’.
