Antonio Rudiger has confirmed he’s made a full U-turn on his Chelsea future and now feels a ‘permanent part of the team’ despite pushing for a move away from the club in the summer.

The 27-year-old defender dropped down the pecking order at Stamford Bridge and was being heavily linked with the likes of Paris Saint-Germain and London rivals Tottenham right up until deadline day.

A possible switch to Spurs collapsed as Rudiger was concerned about a potential backlash from Chelsea supporters but national team boss Joachim Low claimed the Germany international did ‘everything’ in his power to leave – and that he would try again in January.

The situation appeared irreparable given Rudiger was not included in Chelsea’s opening nine games of the season but the centre-back returned to the fold at the end of last month after positive talks with Frank Lampard and has since featured against Krasnodar, Rennes and Newcastle.

‘I’m satisfied with how the situation has developed in the past weeks,’ Rudiger told German outlet SID following Chelsea’s 2-0 victory at St James’ Park.

‘Now I see myself as a permanent part of the team.

‘I had a tough time, so I also checked other transfer options but I received positive signals from the coaching team.’

Rudiger played a major role in convincing Timo Werner to join Chelsea in the summer and the centre-half has been impressed with how quickly his fellow countryman has adjusted to life in the Premier League.

‘The league has accepted Timo really well,’ Rudiger added.

‘Timo integrated into the team and the league very quickly.

‘He can use his speed very well, causes defenders huge problems and exudes confidence all the time.’
