Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel talks Antonio Rudiger's future after superb Leicester display

Thomas Tuchel has reiterated that he hopes Antonio Rudiger will sign a new contract at Chelsea after the defender’s goal-scoring display at Leicester. The German star’s deal is up at the end of the season and he is yet to commit his future to the club.

That has seen Rudiger attract huge interest from a number of big hitters around Europe, including Real Madrid, PSG and Bayern Munich.

Tuchel admitted earlier this week that talks with Rudiger have hit a ‘delay’ but that he was remaining ‘calm’ about his future.

The German boss is a huge admirer of Rudiger and has urged the club to tie him down to a new contract.

Rudiger has developed into one of the world’s finest centre-backs since Tuchel’s arrival at Chelsea and highlighted his importance to the team once again with a commanding performance against Leicester.

Not only did the 28-year-old help Chelsea record a clean sheet, but he also got on the score sheet, grabbing their opening goal on Saturday.

“I think inside I think he knows what he has. He plays for a fantastic club and league.”

Chelsea legend Joe Cole and Rio Ferdinand insisted the club must do all they can to keep hold of Rudiger.

Cole told BT Sport: “He’s a fantastic player and Thomas Tuchel will be desperate to get it done and dusted and signed.”

Ferdinand echoed Cole’s sentiments, adding: “I think they have to pay him so he feels like he’s being paid what he should be. If you look at him in this squad at the players that you wouldn’t want to lose for a number of weeks he’s one of them.”
