Chelsea boss Frank Lampard keen to copy Tottenham plan as he backs Spurs to break records

The Spurs duo are expected to play a key part this weekend when Jose Mourinho takes his Spurs side to Stamford Bridge in a clash in which both sides are looking to assert themselves as title contenders.

Son has produced nine goals and two assists in nine league games this term while Kane has tallied up a staggering seven goals and nine assists in the same number of top-flight appearances.

The exploits of the Spurs duo has helped them to the top of the Premier League table and the duo have now combined for 29 goals in their overall time together in England’s top tier.

That is less only than the legendary Chelsea duo of Lampard and Didier Drogba, who combined for 36 goals across their trophy-laden stint together at the west London outfit.

Lampard is confident the Tottenham pairing, which has played together for five years, will go on to set a brand new record as he waxed lyrical about the talents of England captain Kane and South Korea talisman Son.

And the Chelsea manager would even like to see his attackers grow similar link-ups on the pitch, admitting his charges must be wary of the two on Sunday afternoon (4.30pm kick-off).

“He [Kane] has matured as a player, he is a very impressive player,” Lampard said. “I think he is an intelligent player and that is why they are in a strong position. Harry Kane is in a sweet spot at the moment.

“They are certainly a threat to that record. They are going to beat that comfortably, with the way they’re going. Fair play, I’ve got no qualms about that.

“It’s something me and Didier were proud of but this is football and it moves on. Players of that level will always test that. I’m aware of their threats.

“I’m aware of their threats. You look at the numbers they’re producing, the link-up play, the understanding is clear.

He added: “It is extra special because of the rivalry between the two teams, it adds spice. It remains special and because of the league positions, it is important.

“When you play rivals, it is important to try and win those games for confidence. In the bigger picture, there is a long way to go.

“You have to respect Tottenham and the way they are and the quality they have. They have ways where they can put pressure on you, they can counter attack but I am not relying on that.

“You can’t look past Kane’s relationship with Son at the moment. Tottenham are in good form, they have good players, a good manager and it will be a tough game.”
