Cesc Fabregas claims Thomas Tuchel’s squad is more ‘talented’ than Chelsea’s 2015 and 2017 Premier League title winners

Former Chelsea star Cesc Fabregas believes today’s squad is more ‘complete’ and ‘talented’ than the squad that won the Premier League in 2015 and 2017.

Fabregas won the Premier League twice during his five-year stint in west London, first with Jose Mourinho in his debut season in 2015 and then again with Antonio Conte two years later.

The Spaniard was a vital part of the 2015 side, while he adapted to feature in Conte’s side in 2017 as the Italian played three at the back with great success.

But Fabregas believes that the squad assembled by Thomas Tuchel is better than the squads he won silverware with at Stamford Bridge and says there are ’20 top players’ battling for spots.

Asked if he would have liked to play under Tuchel at Chelsea during his time, Fabregas admitted he would have and said today’s squad was more ‘complete’ than the ones he played in.

‘Oh yes!,’ said Fabregas.

‘We had great teams in my time at Chelsea but never had a squad as complete and talented as that one. 20 top players, a bit like Man City.’

Chelsea haven’t won the title since Conte’s opening season in west London but Tuchel has restored the club to challengers.

The Blues are top of the Premier League after nine matches played and they have a slender one-point lead over rivals Liverpool.

Tuchel’s men take on Newcastle in the north-east this weekend.
