Former Chelsea midfielder Cesc Fabregas was full of praise for Mason Mount’s Champions League final assist for Kai Havertz, with Rio Ferdinand describing the pass as ‘on the money’.

Chelsea lifted the European Cup for the second time in the club’s history after a 1-0 win against Manchester City in Porto, Portugal.

The game was won when Chelsea played their way out from the back midway through the first half, finding Mount on the half-turn on the left flank.

The England international then played a defence-splitting through ball for Havertz, which was perfectly weighted behind City’s backline and forced goalkeeper Ederson into a compromising position.

The Brazilian failed to stop Havertz, who went round the on-rushing goalkeeper to put his side ahead.

Chelsea then put on a defensive masterclass to keep City out for the remainder of the 90 minutes but Fabregas and Ferdinand combined to praise Mount for his part in the victory.

‘What a ball!!! @masnmount_10,’ wrote Fabregas.

‘That’s what I’m talking about.’

Speaking to BT Sport, Ferdinand praised Mount’s ability to spot the pass quickly and then to execute it.

‘The way that Mason Mount turns on this ball, faces the game and just sees it.’ said Ferdinand.

‘It’s a good run from Havertz, the ball from Mason Mount is absolutely on the money, but it’s lazy defending from Zinchenko.’
