Casetify pulls ‘Merry Crisis’ phone case made to look like antidepressant packet

Phone accessories brand Casetify has removed a case made to look like an antidepressant packet from its website after shoppers said it was ‘glamourising mental illness’.

The cover features a design with a flattened white box and text saying ‘Nopain diazepam 5mg’ referencing the drug which is used to treat anxiety and other conditions.

The slogan on the cover says ‘Merry Crisis and a happy new fear’ – a phrase used in protest graffiti – but teamed with the antidepressant packet, the brand seemed to be referencing the idea of a mental health crisis.

Although it was launched during the Christmas period, the item was spotted by Becci and she shared it with her followers on Twitter this week.

She said: ‘I just got this ad for @Casetify and idk it just doesn’t sit right with me. mental illness isn’t a fashion accessory, it’s not quirky or cute.’

She later added: ‘This is just glamorizing it. A highly addictive drug that contributes to suicides and “merry crisis” minimises the seriousness of what being in crisis actually means.’

Others commented on her tweet to say they felt the product was ‘tasteless’.

One said: ‘Yeah this seems super inappropriate and offensive. not a good look for them. yes, we should talk about mental health, but this is not the way.’

Another added: ‘This is disgusting. @Casetify stop making money from a serious issue by trying to make it ‘trendy’. Mental illnesses are not a f**king joke.’

The product has since been removed from the Casetify website but it’s not clear if that is because the Christmas period has ended, or if it is because of the criticism.

The picture no longer shows on the webpage and it is listed as sold out, but other Christmas products are still available.

We contacted a representative from Casetify for comment and will update this article if they respond.
