Campbell will hold no fear against opponent dubbed 'the next Oscar de la Hoya'

Luke Campbell has never had it easy so facing Ryan Garcia on American soil in Texas holds no fears for him.

Garcia has been groomed as the next Oscar de la Hoya. Like his promoter, he’s tall, quick, good looking and carries power in both hands.

But he has not faced the calibre of opponent that Luke has. We believe that will be a telling factor in this face-off for the WBC interim title and a shot at champion Devin Haney.

Undefeated Garcia boasts 17 KOs in his 20 wins to date. He looks for the right hand over the top but his left hook is the money shot.

A California native of Mexican descent, Garcia has been boxing since he was seven years old.

After winning 15 national amateur titles and making the American team at 17, Garcia put turning pro ahead of the Olympics in 2016 to help support his family. With more than seven million Instagram followers, he is one of the most popular fighters in the world at just 22.

But he remains relatively untested and wants this fight against a 2012 Olympic champion to be the one that proves just how good he is.

Campbell knows he is in for a tough night, but believes the experience of going deep in title fights against the likes of Jorge Linares and pound for pound great Vasyl Lomachenko gives him the edge.

There will be three thousand fans in the arena, and all of them screaming for Garcia, but that’s ok. Campbell will shut that out. He will be in his own bubble.

He needs to use his southpaw jab, and drive that left hand into the target. Just keep punching in that ten-inch square from nose to collar bone. And try not to get drawn into a fight. You do not want to be caught on the ropes against this guy.

Who will win between Campbell and Garcia? Have your say below.

After coming down with Covid in November Campbell has recovered well and had a great camp. Though the elder by 11 years there is no scarring. He is always in excellent shape and has looked as good as ever in sparring.

He is so ready for this. Indeed, he would not be out here if he didn’t think he could get the job done.

Ultimately Campbell believes this guy is not in his league. He wants to dominate Garcia then book that date with Haney for the world title his talent deserves.

Happy New Year.
